The Artwork of María Marí Murga

Maria Mari Murga is an award winning Filipina Spanish artist based in Alicante, Spain. Maria developed her career as a creative in London for 10 years. Her Filipino origins hail from Zamboanga City in Mindanao and Basque roots. The grand daughter of a WWII Bataan Death March survivor, Philippine history runs in her veins. Murga studied at the Art and Design school "La Massana" in Barcelona and trained with Catalan painter Cayetano de Arquer Buigas. She pursued her art studies in Italy, graduating at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence. Orient and Occident are brought together under Murga’s life vision.

Maria’s work chronicles her journeys in remote areas of rural Philippines, capturing the history, culture, heritage and traditions of the country in a somewhat whimsical way. She applies her fine technical skills to represent the daily lives of the people all over the archipelago. Murga threw a spotlight on and captured these scenes for the rest of the world to discover and enjoy, and to serve as a reminder of the beauty of the country and an inspiration to visit the islands.

Murga has exhibited globally: The Annigonni Museum in Florence, The Mall Galleries in London, The Philippine Embassy in London, The Museo de Baler in the Philippines, The School of Oriental and African Studies SOAS in London, The Philippine Senate Congress in Manila, The Philippine Center in New York, Sentro Rizal in Washington DC and The Peninsula Hotel in Manila, among others.

Her work has been awarded by art institutions such as The Royal Society of British Artists, The De Laszlo Foundation and The Pastel Society UK at The Mall Galleries in London.

Her paintings are part of private collections and corporate companies around the globe including The De Laszlo Foundation London, The Reginald F. Lewis Foundation New York, The United States Philippines Society Washington D.C. or Metro Pacific Investments Corporation Manila.
